aggressive tombo sketches on 5.2.12

Considering the model this week, I thought it would be interesting to use brush pens with my 8.5x11 sketchbook. My aim was to make these drawings look more aggressive with very liberal use of the darkest marker. It really took some fine control to get the gestures to look right.

brown pencil on 4.4.12

I don't know whats up with this weeks sketches, but they turned out really good. With the gestures, I think opening up and trying to fill the page helped. During the last week, I crowded the gestures and the page layout didn't look as good as I expected. I went back to my comfort zone with hatching this week and the longer sketches turned out pretty well too. I needed more practice with faces, so thats where I put my focus.

a little from the old book, a little from the newer one...

With this week, I used a fine point sharpie pen and a wide permanent marker for the sketches. The gestures looked pretty messy, but created a nice grungy effect with the toned paper. As the session went on, I ran out of the pages in the toned sketchbook and switched over to the newer white sketchbook. A wide permanent marker is pretty challenging to use. I think next time, I should use a drier marker!
