colored pencils on 4.25.12

I have to say that this has been a successful week. The model did a very a good job and the sketches showed for it. I mixed it up by using both hatching and the side pencil shading techniques. I also focused more on portraits and I feel a little more comfortable sketching them now. It still takes a lot of practice to get the faces just right.

brown pencil on 4.4.12

I don't know whats up with this weeks sketches, but they turned out really good. With the gestures, I think opening up and trying to fill the page helped. During the last week, I crowded the gestures and the page layout didn't look as good as I expected. I went back to my comfort zone with hatching this week and the longer sketches turned out pretty well too. I needed more practice with faces, so thats where I put my focus.

black pencil on 3.28.12

With this week, I was in the mood to create punchy black pencil sketches and I did just that. The prior week I was hatching, so this week I wanted to shade with the side of the pencil. Thats about it. Overall, it was a pretty good week.

the first week with the 11x14 sketchbook! 1.18.12

This was an interesting week. It involved a model who was liked to pose with props and what seemed like music that they like to play during the renaissance faire. Whatever it was, it made for a pretty good week of sketching. I think the 11x14" size also helped with opening up and being more loose.

sketches from 9.21.11

There were a lot of good sketches for this week. Some maybe a little heavy-handed, but overall, not too bad.

a few sketches from 11.2.11

I don't think I scanned too much from that week, but here some pretty decent ones. With that week, I tried to aim for contrast. The shaded backgrounds look a little grainy, but I don't think thats a bad thing.

brown pencil from 11.9.11

During this week I tried shading using the side of a brown pencil. I'm not sure if these sketches showed up as brown, but this color is punchy and richer than plain black. I would say that this week of sketches were pretty successful.
