black pencil on 3.28.12

With this week, I was in the mood to create punchy black pencil sketches and I did just that. The prior week I was hatching, so this week I wanted to shade with the side of the pencil. Thats about it. Overall, it was a pretty good week.

week 3.14.12 with tombos

I came to class this week, opened up my bag and I noticed that I forgotten my pencil sharpener! So rather than sticking with the original plan, I used the three tombo markers that I knew worked well together. The sketches aren't as detail-y like the pencil ones, but they turned out to look punchy and energetic.

the first week with the 11x14 sketchbook! 1.18.12

This was an interesting week. It involved a model who was liked to pose with props and what seemed like music that they like to play during the renaissance faire. Whatever it was, it made for a pretty good week of sketching. I think the 11x14" size also helped with opening up and being more loose.

some more recent stuff from 2.8.12

This week, I decided to use fineliner pen because I hadn't sketched with it for a while. Another thing I wanted to try to do based from the core77 blog forum critique, was to try to do a quicker line drawing and putting focus on one area. These sketches focused on the face. Some are decent, some are pretty good.

some red pencil sketches from 7.27.11

Here are some red pencil sketches from the first sketchbook. I thought it was a pretty good week.

a little from the old book, a little from the newer one...

With this week, I used a fine point sharpie pen and a wide permanent marker for the sketches. The gestures looked pretty messy, but created a nice grungy effect with the toned paper. As the session went on, I ran out of the pages in the toned sketchbook and switched over to the newer white sketchbook. A wide permanent marker is pretty challenging to use. I think next time, I should use a drier marker!

sketches from 9.21.11

There were a lot of good sketches for this week. Some maybe a little heavy-handed, but overall, not too bad.
